Launched at Posidonia 2000, the ABS SafeShip program applies advanced technology to reduce risk in the design, construction and maintenance of a new and safer generation of cost-efficient vessels. ABS SafeShip not only provides a method of collecting the information, starting with the initial design and drawings, but also of applying the most advanced, dynamic based assessment of the hull structure at any time throughout the vesselís life.
The central elements within ABS SafeShip had been developed to improve the manner in which ABS assessed and recorded the structural condition of ABS classed vessels. But the principal responsibility for the condition and safety of a vessel lies with the shipowner who is now given, at no cost, the most complete set of tools available that can be used to plan and implement a through-life structural integrity management program.
With ABS SafeShip, a complete, detailed, structural history of a vessel can be developed that can stay with that ship for its entire service life. Using SafeShip the responsible shipowner will be able to easily determine the structural condition of the ship at any time during its life, and then plan maintenance, inspection and repair strategies that minimize risk and greatly improve operating efficiencies. This is a major step forward in the pursuit of higher standards of structural and operational safety. Free enrollment in the ABS SafeShip program is open to all new and existing vessels designed to meet ABS SafeHull criteria.
