Advanced Periscopes for Turkish Navy

Kollmorgen Corporation has received a $22 million contract from the German shipyard Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG (HDW) to produce advanced submarine periscopes for the Turkish Navy. The contract covers a total of four Model 76 Attack and Model 76 Search periscopes. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in May 2002 with the last systems being supplied in January 2005.
The periscope systems will include image intensifiers, laser ranging, CCD TV cameras, image stabilization, magnification changes and the state-of-the-art imaging system.
The Turkish Navy, which operates one of the larger submarine fleets among NATO's member nations, currently has eight Model 76 periscope systems built by Kollmorgen. The new periscopes will be installed aboard Type 209 submarines, built by HDW since the 1960s and widely deployed by western navies.
