Anti-corrosion System

USA-based tank coatings specialist Advanced Polymer Sciences, Inc. has won a major turnkey contract to supply and apply its MarineLine® anti-corrosion system to the cargo tanks of two oil and chemical tanker newbuildings now under construction in China. The 13,500 dwt tankers are being built at Jiangyang Shipyard, China for Büttner und Gils Schifffahrt GmbH & Co KG of Flensburg, Germany. Designed by Skipskonsulent AB, one of Scandinavia's leading naval architects and design consultants, they include a number of new features. These SK40/83-type double hull tankers are designed as twin screw, ice-strengthened vessels for worldwide operation, carrying oil products and chemicals in MarineLine-coated tanks with no internal structure. They provide full cargo segregation in 16 separate tanks, with the capability for simultaneous discharge of eight tanks via separate pumps and crossovers, delivering a discharge time of 10.5 hours with eight pumps running. Advanced Polymer Sciences (APS) will be responsible for coating all cargo tanks and slop tanks under a turnkey contract worth more than US$3.5 million, including product supply, application, heat curing and quality control and checks at each stage through from surface preparation to final inspection and testing.
