Apprentice School of Northrop Grumman

The Apprentice School of Northrop Grumman in Newport News (Virginia, USA) has officially chartered a Student Section of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. The new Student Section received its official recognition at a meeting of the Hampton Roads Chapter of SNAME in September. The Apprentice School Student Section is unique in that its students have experience in the production side of the marine industry. Nearly all of the classes revolve around ship systems and functions. Students train specifically for careers in the shipbuilding industry.

The school members look forward to becoming involved in all aspects of SNAME and hope that other student and professional organizations will seek them out for their experience and knowledge in all phases of ship design and construction. The group welcomes the opportunity to assist interested parties with projects, technical papers, and looks forward to collaborating with other teams involved in the industry. Students founded the Apprentice School Student Section of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers in May 2005, sponsored by the Hampton Roads Section of SNAME.
