Booking Planner Software for Cruise Ships

      7/4/2000

The 84,000 gt Costa Atlantica, due for delivery from Kvaerner Masa yard is the first ship to benefit from Italian classification society RINA’s unique Booking Planner software. RINA’s Booking Planner software was introduced in February 2000 to help passenger ship operators maximise yields on any given cruise or voyage.

The software can be replicated on board the ship to allow the hotel manager to verify berth allocation and produce hard copy evidence that the distribution of passengers meets safety criteria. Booking Planner works by validating the ship’s berth layout against SOLAS escape route regulations and the life saving appliances fitted, taking into account main vertical fire divisions and dimensions of stairs and corridors. For any particular voyage it optimises passenger distribution, improving yield and ensuring safe evacuation.

RINA is currently overseeing the construction of four ultra-large cruise ships for Carnival Corporation at Kvaerner Masa yards, and seven large cruise vessels for Holland America, Carnival and Princess Cruises at Fincantieri yards.
