A new initiative to promote the British marine industry to overseas markets was launched by the Minister for Trade. The Marine Export Partnership is an initiative intended to promote British marine excellence internationally. It is supported by Trade Partners UK through the Sector Partnership Fund and led by the three major trade associations for the UK marine industry - the British Marine Equipment Council (BMEC), British Marine Industries Federation (BMIF) and Shipbuilders and Ship Repairers Association (SSA).
The Partnership aims to assist British companies in the industry and build on export sales in existing markets and seek out new ones. It covers four sectors within the industry: shipbuilding, ship repair and ship conversion: marine equipment and engineering; leisure boating; and port and terminal equipment and consultancy services.
The UK marine equipment industry makes an important contribution to the UK economy. The UK is currently winning an export share of the global equipment market close to £1.2 billion per annum. The supply of complete ships, oil and gas extraction and processing equipment is not included in these figures. The UK marine equipment suppliers can provide a complete range of equipment for ships and craft of all types and sizes, including complete systems packages.
