CAM Requirements for US Shipbuilding

This project investigated the current and future requirements of the US shipbuilding industry for Computer Aided Design-for-Production (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), and Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) equipment. It is intended that the findings from this research would support and guide discussions toward future related projects.

The report assumes that CAD for the shipyard enterprise is defined as Computer Aided Design for Production. This is a very significant definition for the industry, since in shipbuilding you must design and plan with the processes of a particular shipyard in mind. In addition, the speed and methods through which voluminous information now can be obtained and distributed to shipyard organizations demands an understanding of how to utilize Information Technology, in this case the information technology relating to CAM requirements.

To download the report, please go to either of the two sponsoring Panel's web pages (Shipyard Production Processes Technologies or Systems Technologies) at MARITECH ASE program web site.
