Ørskov Christensens Staalskibsværft A/S has secured a new conversion contract for the earlier Great Belt Car and Passenger Ferry "Heimdal" now to be converted into a Cable Laying Vessel for fiber optic cables world wide. The vessel will be delivered to its Owners on 1st March 2000.
The vessel is 131,70 m long and has a beam of 20,11 m. After conversion the ship will be used for installation of fiber optic cables worldwide. The cable installation will be performed by means of an underwater plough and a ROV that is to be installed on the vessel during the conversion period. In order to fulfil the vessel's operational needs increased accommodation space, new cable tanks, new deck machinery cable handling equipment, underwater plough and ROV will be installed during the conversion process.
