Beele Engineering in Aalten, the Netherlands has introduced new calculation software for the RISE multi-cable and pipe sealing system. The RISE calculation software runs on Windows and is available on CD-ROM. The program helps the user calculate the quantity of RISE material required for sealing cable or pipe penetrations.
Among the program’s many functions are the options of creating a project database of all penetrations, and compiling a materials list for specific penetrations or for the whole project. There is extensive provision for making modifications or changes at a later stage, and the software also has an interactive help function.
The RISE system combines optimal fire-resistance with quick, user-friendly processing. The short installation time is due to the design of the system, which consists of fire-resistant protective sleeves that are split lengthways and easy to place around cables. Once the cables are ‘packed’ in this way, the remaining space is packed with spare filler sleeves. The penetration is finally sealed with a 2 cm-thick layer of fire-resistant FIWA sealant. The sealant is water-repellent and gas-tight and ensures a watertight seal. The sealant’s water tightness is in excess of 2.5 bar.
A distinctive feature of the RISE system is the fact that when the sleeves are heated or exposed to fire they expand to between five and ten times their original volume. The foam rubber mass that is produced in the process ensures a complete seal and extra protection against fire, heat and poisonous or corrosive gases. Fire tests conducted in accordance with IMO (International Maritime Organization) Resolution A.754(18) show that the RISE cable and pipe penetrations far exceed the A60 standard.
