MacGREGOR’s contract to supply the entire refrigeration machinery, including the piping network to the cold stores for two 90,000gt ‘Baby Grand’ class ships on order at Chantiers de l'Atlantique (France) is the biggest the company has received to date for a refrigeration plant that solely features MacGREGOR equipment.
The refrigeration service supplied by MacGREGOR is rooted in the company's extensive knowledge in the supply of provisions stores and catering technology and its global network of service centres. A wide range of refrigeration machinery and a choice of compressors to provide the best overall design solution are offered. Condensing units and brine chillers fulfil the stringent demands set by the marine environment, and all use environmentally friendly HFC refrigerants.
The units are based on screw or piston compressors of either open or semi-hermetic types. All are packaged as modular units for easy installation and are fully tested before leaving the factory.
All control units in the system operate completely independently, but are also linked via a two-wire field bus system to a standard PC computer to facilitate remote control and management of the shipboard installation. This in turn can be interfaced, if required, with the ship's main automation system. Should the bus system fail at any time, the individual control units remain operational to ensure continuity of temperature control.
