LR's ClassDirect Live Web site, designed to give shipowners and operators live access via the Internet to ship survey status information, has been shortlisted for a major Financial Times award.
Launched in June of this year, ClassDirect Live is now being accessed by 275 users, with collectively some 1,200 vessels. Each subscribing client has sole and secure access to data on his own fleet. LR developed ClassDirect Live by using Web technology to integrate the best of its databases to form the most comprehensive database in the marine industry - one which contains the complete and up to date construction, classification and statutory survey history of LR-classed ships. And LR's recently implemented electronic survey reporting system enables its surveyors swiftly to input their reports into this database.
Among areas for development being considered are: exchange of ship plans; and planning for enhanced surveys, taking into account a specific ship's condition and feedback from similar vessels. Further innovations will be announced on the ClassDirect Live Web site.
