As the world's first ocean-going luxury resort, The World will provide 110 spacious Residences, fully furnished and equipped, and 88 Guest Suites for family, friends, business associates, or personal staff. The ship is being built by Fosen Mek Verksteder A/S (FMV), a shipyard located in Rissa, Norway. Keel laying of The World of ResidenSea took place on September 18, 2000.

In late March 2001, the ship will be launched and will leave Landskrona to be towed to Rissa for the outfitting and delivery to the owner the same year.The World of ResidenSea, a unique new ship specially designed to accommodate spacious private Apartments, Resident and Guest Suites, will be an exclusive residential community at sea. The ship will sail continuously around the world, always in the most pleasant climate and with an itinerary that includes major international events and attractions. Residents will be able to stay in their Apartments at any time of year.
