The Rus - a deepwater submersible has completed sea trials in the Baltic Sea, reported Itar-Tass on 21 October 1999. The 25-tonne submersible, built at the Admiralty Shipyards, can operate under water independently for ten hours and is intended for the search for various sunken objects and their survey.
The deepwater rescue craft can submerge to a depth of 6 kilometres and surface a weight of up to 200 kg. If necessary, the submersible can be used for geological prospecting on the seabed. With this end in view, a drilling rig is mounted on it to take samples even in a rocky ground. The submersible will be used to search for sunken ships and engage in geological prospecting on the seabed.
