Efficient Oil Separation Unit

      12/6/1999

Efficient Oil Separation Unit

The new Alfa Laval compact Separation Unit, designed for cleaning all types of oil, offers the highest separation efficiency on the market. The SU’s extremely high separation efficiency, combined with impressively low installation and operating costs make it the most cost-efficient oil treatment system on the market today.

Since centrifugal separation is one of Alfa Laval’s core technologies, the development of the Separation Unit was focused on achieving the highest possible separation efficiency by optimizing the bowl design of the separator.
Of particular interest to ship operators, service intervals for the separator are considerably longer - up to 12,000 hours for the first overhaul service. This is due to the new bowl design, which combines high capacity with high efficiency. Prolonged service intervals mean that the spare parts used for planned maintenance are reduced dramatically compared with existing models. This can cut operating costs by as much as 50% over three years.

For shipyards and engine builders, the Separation Unit's small footprint of less than 1.5 m2 (SU 300 model) means considerable space savings and lower installation costs. A saving in volume of more than 5 m3 and a weight reduction of 1.5 tons are other major benefits compared with current modules. In addition, there is no need for an operating water tank.
