Electronic Gyro Controller
4/2/2002
The new CPS 1000 electronic gyro controller for stabilizers provides yacht owners with a high level of comfort. In rough seas, uncontrolled rolling motion is not only uncomfortable for crew and passengers, it creates danger for a vessel’s hull and contents, making roll fin stabilizer systems essential gear for comfortable, safe boating. This electronically actuated gyro control system from Wesmar adapts to changing sea conditions. It uses an electronic gyro that cycles at 1000 times per second providing instantaneous information about the roll velocity and acceleration directly to the proportional valves, which react to rotate the stabilizer’s fins. Among various new features, the CPS 1000 controller includes a sensitivity adjustment that determines the stabilizer’s behavior under different speeds and sea conditions. The gyro produces a continuous signal to a closed loop hydraulic system that consists of a proportional control valve, pump, manifold and cylinders. These provide the fins with precise and smooth movements. Stabilizer’s response can be adjusted in order to compensate for various sea motion conditions. In addition, a trim control function facilitates adjustments allowing the stabilizers to compensate appropriately for the vessel’s natural list, or the induced (wind, sea, etc.) list or heel.
