Emergency Escape Smoke Hood

Prevention and control of fire on a ship present a number of unique problems. Special attention must be paid to fire safety, and in particular to evacuation procedures from enclosed areas that can fill quickly with the toxic fumes generated by fire.

Emergency Escape Smoke Hoods are the solution to this problem, and the EVAC-U8 represents the state-of-the-art in smoke hood technology. The ingenuity of EVAC-U8 lies in its combination of potentially life-saving features. EVAC-U8’s sophisticated catalytic filter system provides up to 20 minutes of breathable air in a toxic environment, and the Kapton Hood protects the head and eyes from smoke, heat and flame (up to 800F). EVAC-U8 is simple to use, as well as being quite light (312g.) and compact - about the size of a pop can - making it easy to carry and store (each unit comes with a plastic wall mount which can be readily attached to appropriate bulkheads). It is also significantly less expensive than any other smoke hood design capable of filtering carbon monoxide, the #1 killer in fires!     EVAC-U8small.jpg (16205 bytes)

This remarkable device - winner of the 1996 Seatrade Award for Safety At Sea - was developed by Captain John Swann. His 20 years experience in the British Merchant Navy, combined with a strong technical background, provided an insight into the fire safety problems faced by mariners, as well as the expertise to solve them. EVAC-U8 was first introduced in 1994, and to date over 140,000 have been sold in over 40 countries to customers in a wide variety of industries: aviation, construction, fire-fighting, government, industrial, law enforcement, military, petroleum and transportation.
EVAC-U8 also has a long list of marine customers, including the U.S. Navy, Canadian Coast Guard, Blue Star Line, Holland America Lines and Princess Cruise Lines. EVAC-U8 is the world’s most advanced smoke hood, and as such represents an essential element of the fire safety system aboard maritime vessels.
