If you are running multiple electronic devices--depth sounder, GPS Loran, you may run into problems as each device attempts to "speak" to it's host (laptop) at the same time. The Exp-14 Expander increases the reliability of any installation utilizing multiple listeners. It provides a single "opto-isolated" input and four independent RS-422 differential outputs. Some GPS receivers, LORAN, receivers and other marine electronic instruments, although being compliant with the NMEA specification, do not provide sufficient drive capability to function in a multiple listener installation. The EXP-14 has four differential outputs, of which each output can drive multiple listeners where needed.

Expander solves those installation problems by providing an opto-isolated input (listener) port and four independent output (talker) ports. All four outputs are differential drive (RS-422) and isolated from each other. The "EXP-14" provides an additional safety benefit of isolation between multiple listeners so that one or more can become shorted without affecting the others.
