Fastest Passenger Ship Classed with GL

Olympic Voyager is the fastest passenger ship in the world (28 knots) and an example of a successful international cooperation. For Germanischer Lloyd a special challenge was to combine it’s competence in the construction of cruise liners and the extensive experience in the high-speed sector with the internationally respected quality standards of the Blohm & Voss shipyard.

Apart from providing classification services, GL's specialists contributed to the success of this demanding project by providing extensive support to the shipyard and its partners from the initial design to final completion. This included extensive strength calculations, vibration analysis, acoustic insulation, and comprehensive noise/sound predictions and propagation calculations with the aid of modern computer-based models.

Olympic Voyager is 180 meters long, 25.6 meters wide with tonnage of 24,500 GT. The ship is propelled by 4 Wärtsilä type 9L46 engines with 9,450 kW each and has a service speed of 28 knots.
