Fire Safe Composite Gratings

The Gulf Coast Region Maritime Technology Center (USA) has issued a Request for Proposal to develop and certify for use fire safe composite gratings which meet the US Coast Guard Level 1 requirements for potential use in commercial shipbuilding, Navy surface ships, Navy submarines and oil platforms. Potential applications of composite gratings encompass the entire marine industry. The benefits of composite gratings include lightweight, low cost, and corrosion resistance.

The project objective is to perform the required development, analysis and testing including life cycle costing of open faced composite gratings in order to qualify them for installation in marine and infrastructure applications. Such gratings are of value to US Navy surface combatant and auxiliary ships, oil platforms, commercial shipping, and shore-based industries. The project requires the direct participation of a composite manufacturer. Proposals will not be considered without this participation.
