Fleet View Online

Fleet View Online is the new web based ship tracking system from Transas Telematics and MVS Communications. The system offers data position reports displayed on electronic charts and the service comes with airtime. This online application doesn’t require any software installation - the Internet access is all what is required to start monitoring the vessels. A vessel track history of up to 3 months is available.

A Direct Position Report (DPR) is sent from the ship via the Inmarsat-C terminal integrated on board each ship as part of GMDSS requirements. No additional equipment or alteration is required on board for this. The DPR is received at the Land Earth Station used by the vessel, which then forwards it to the destination via email. Once there, the message is automatically updated onto the Fleet View database showing the new position. As Fleet View is an office based system, all installations and configuration of the system are undertaken there. Upon installation the system is set up to receive DPRs at the required intervals. Although the standard is 4 hours, it is possible to get more frequent updates. The current and forecast meteorological data, including significant wave height, provides ship managers with vital weather information. The fast area navigator feature enables quick moves from one user-defined area to another. Fleet View Online is combined with the comprehensive ports listing, which allows rapid switching between ports.
