Floating Storage/Production Vessel Conversions

      5/31/1999

KEPPEL Shipyard of Singapore has clinched two major conversion projects from Single Buoy Moorings.
The yard won the contracts after Single Buoy evaluated its bid that included a review of recently completed similar projects, all of which were delivered either on or ahead of schedule.
The first contract is to convert the 87,811 dwt tanker MT Metsovon to a Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) facility with storage capacity for up to 500,000 barrels of condensate. Work on the 1979-built ship will comprise refurbishment and conversion into an FSO which includes the fabrication and installation of a helideck, installation of an external turret mooring system, a metering skid, a deck crane and a power generation skid.
The second contract, which is significantly larger in yard work scope, is for the conversion of an existing Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel to be named FPSO V1.
The significant jobs to be carried out will include the installation of an internal turret mooring system and the removal of its existing oil processing and utility systems. These will be replaced by a new oil, water and gas production and treatment facilities on the main deck. Conversion of the boilers for gas and diesel oil and installation of a flare tower will also be done. The helideck and supply handling deck cranes will also be installed along with foundation, walkways, lighting, communications and utilities for various deck facilities. Refurbishment and life extension works will allow the vessel’s effective utilisation for 16 continuous years of service on site without dry-docking.
