Galleys and Elevators for SeaFrance

MacGREGOR’s Passenger Ship Division has secured a contract to supply catering systems and elevators for SeaFrance’s 34,000gt newbuilding on order at Aker Finnyards. Scheduled for delivery in September, SeaFrance’s 34,000gt RoRo passenger ferry building at Aker Finnyards will be the largest and fastest ferry on the Dover-Calais route linking the UK with France.MacGREGOR will supply and install a comprehensive catering outfit covering a total area of 772m˛.

The package includes three bars, two pantries, three galleys and three buffet areas. The elevator package comprises eight elevators of which three are passenger units, four are for service duties, and the other one is for crew use. All are the geared traction type with a high operating speed of 1.6m/sec. The three passenger elevators are each rated at 900kg capacity or 12 people. They are all independent units and can be switched between pre-defined ‘at sea’ and ‘in harbour’ modes. In harbour mode the elevators operate without restriction; in sea mode, access to the car decks is denied, but people on the car decks can still call the elevator to reach the public decks. The elevators have a range of operating heights of 11.4m, 14.6m and 17.8m. The four service elevators are each rated at 2,000kg, or 26 people, and have operating heights of 15.1m, 17.6m, 20.8m and 8.9m. The crew elevator is a dedicated elevator linking crew accommodation decks, the machinery deck and upper public spaces.
