ZENON’s AMTS (Aerated Membrane Treatment System) is an integrated system capable of purifying black and gray water to meet the most stringent effluent standards. The company has recently sold two water treatment systems to Holland America Lines Westours, valued at approximately $5 million. In light of recent legislation in Alaska, all vessels sailing Alaskan waters must now undergo strict sampling and testing requirements for any wastewater discharged into the sensitive marine environment. ZENON's system eliminates the discharge of normal black and gray water into any environmentally sensitive area.

ZENON’s AMTS provides efficient water purification of Black and Gray water. Its compact, lightweight, energy efficient and modular construction easily integrates into any ship design. The AMTS is also readily re-configurable for retrofit into existing ships. For ease of operation and maintenance the AMTS offers an optional, fully automated, control and monitoring interface to the ships' systems. As an alternative, the AMTS accommodates barge mounted or pierside configuration requirements.

ZeeWeed® ultrafiltration immersed hollow-fibre membranes are the heart of ZENON's ZenoGem® membrane bioreactor. The membranes, under the application of a slight suction, allow clean water to pass to the inside of the membrane fibre, leaving biomass and suspended solids in the bioreactor. Membranes provide a physical barrier that prevents the passage of contaminants and solids into the treated water stream. The ZeeWeed® membrane modules have a nominal pore size of 0.1 mm and reject particles or dissolved solids larger than the pores. In this way, treated water can be produced, with minimal or no chemical addition and treatment, to meet stringent effluent water quality guidelines.
