Increased Confidence for Owners and Operators

The latest issue of Classification News, published by Lloyd's Register (LR), advises owners of new International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) procedures for approving service suppliers. Service suppliers must achieve compliance with these requirements if they wish their services to be utilised beyond the IACS deadline of December 10, 2000.

These requirements include a wide range of minimum standards, including levels of training for personnel and adequacy of equipment and facilities. A documented quality assurance system must also be in place.
This IACS initiative should give owners and operators the benefit of increased levels of confidence in the quality and consistency of service levels of the suppliers they employ. Future issues of Classification News will include information on various themes including technical recommendations, LR product/service launches and other issues, which require the urgent attention of clients.
