Innovative Pipe Couplings

Innovative Pipe Couplings

STRAUB pipe couplings offer advantages to shipyards during construction. Pipes can be perfectly joined in about two minutes without any need to machine the pipe-ends first and without any fire hazard from brazing or welding. The simple installation procedure necessary with these pipe couplings means that they can be fitted and serviced by semiskilled workers quickly and safely.

In contrast to press-fittings, threaded sleeves and flanged connections, misalignments of up to 5° can be compensated and hence movements in the ship's hull does not affect the pipelines. These maintenance-free couplings also dampen sound and vibrations and require much less space when comparing with couplings. STRAUB couplings have been used in large quantities in the "Grand Princess” for fire-fighting and sanitary piping. The large weight savings of about 24 tonnes (with 3,000 couplings) have been achieved compared with flanged connections.
