Integrated Automation System for Cruise Vessel

      12/11/2003

68,000 GRT cruise vessel Crystal Serenity, built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique, has been equipped with an advanced Integrated Automation, Monitoring and Control System (IAMCS) designed and engineered by ABB Solutions SpA, Marine Division of Genova (Italy). The IAMCS is based on an open control architecture that enables real time control and monitoring of all vessel’s systems. It consists of a network of distributed process controllers and operator workplaces connected through a high-speed optical fiber bus system.

The IAMCS functions include the power management system for the ship’s electrical plant, alarm and monitoring, auxiliary systems control and data communication with other computer systems. Redundant process controllers and data networks have been implemented in order to meet Lloyd’s Register requirements regarding the acceptable level of system availability. The Crystal Cruises’ fleet consists of other two mid-sized luxury cruise vessels, Crystal Harmony and Crystal Symphony, all equipped with an ABB Integrated Automation, Monitoring and Control System.
