As a part of its Bridge 2000 initiative, Royal Caribbean International (RCI) is upgrading the bridge navigation electronics on existing ships and is also specifying Litton IBS for the Eagle-class newbuilds. The agreement with Litton includes a comprehensive package of equipment, installation, service, training and technical support.
The first Litton systems have already been fitted on two RCI cruise ships, the most recent of which was Enchantment of the Seas, which was retrofitted in Norfolk, Virginia. Other existing ships will be retrofitted with the Litton IBS equipment during scheduled overhauls in the coming year. The Eagle-class ships are being fitted with a package that includes twin redundant systems for all critical components.
The Litton IBS equipment for the existing RCI ships consists of an integrated Sperry Voyage Management System (VMS) with ECDIS, including a planning station, navigation station and conning station, and interswitched X-band and S-band BridgeMaster E ARPA radars, autopilot and sensor upgrades.
