Lloyd's Register Leads LNG Sector

Transporting liquified natural gas (LNG) by sea requires special engineering techniques and contingency measures to lower the risks arising from the hazardous nature of the cargo. With 430 LNG ship-years experience, Lloyd's Register (LR) is clearly ahead of the pack in provision of classification services to the LNG sector offering top level experience and unique value-added services.

LR's has an extensive order book of 19 new LNG ships. In addition to through-life ship classification services, LR's marine trade simulation capability - FLEET - enables LNG operators to understand, address and lower commercial risks to the business activities. FLEET provides dynamic modelling and simulation of marine LNG trade operations, taking into account the interactions of trade operations, regulations, environmental factors and critical system characteristics - enabling operators to make informed business risk-related decisions. It has proven accuracy in past studies including the evaluation of:

  • fleet and terminal capacity
  • scheduling
  • berth utilisation
  • maintenance optimisation
  • life extension feasibility
  • commercial risk evaluation
