The Motion Interceptor from Maritime Dynamics (Maryland, USA) offers the high-speed craft operators an effective motion control system that has low weight, low power, low cost and no exposure to damage from floating objects or grounding. According to the company, the system can be easily installed or retrofit on most monohulls and catamarans, and its simplicity make trim and ride control affordable to many operators.
The Motion Interceptor offers the high-speed craft operators an effective stabilization system providing control of running trim and list and automatic damping of pitch, roll and the associated accelerations. MDI interceptors generate an increase in pressure on the hull bottom plating directly ahead of the transom by intercepting the flow with a blade. At high speed, the blade has to extend only a few centimeters below the transom to generate pressure fields on the hull plating equivalent to the pressure produced by a trim tab, fin or foil. This makes it possible to use the interceptor (like a trim tab, fin or foil) to provide forces for optimizing the running trim and damping the pitch and roll motions.
