National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) and DNV have agreed to assign the class notation Nauticus to the suezmax tanker Iran Sanandaj. The Nauticus on board class concept is found to fit well in with NITC's long term objectives of improving overall company competitiveness. In a brief ceremony to mark the assignment, Chairman Souri of NITC stated his company’s commitment to make use of modern IT solutions to improve overall company efficiency and competitiveness.
The practical use of the notation will start as soon as the 3D Graphic Model for the ship is delivered from DNV's Modeling Centre. This will take place in April. Nauticus is a new class service concept that changes classification from annual transactions to an on-going relationship, based on continuous knowledge sharing. DNV's maritime knowledge and information is made available to the customers around the clock, around the globe. Thus shipowners and managers are enabled to make timely decisions regarding the safety and profitability of their ships.
The main elements of Nauticus are the 3D Graphic Model and the access to information made available through this model. For ship owners it represents the most comprehensive and user friendly ship condition overview available. It enables them to quickly communicate complex issues relating to their ships, both within their own organisations and with external parties.
