Naval Submarines Symposium
This event, scheduled for 18 – 19th June 2002 in London, will be the twenty-second in the Royal Institute of Naval Architects’ successful WARSHIP symposia. The submarine continues to play a significant role in both open ocean and littoral water operations. It is of critical importance for power projection in littoral operations and their defence. Submarines also have a major role in covert reconnaissance. In addition those nations that deploy a sea based nuclear deterrent will still require it to be protected by ASW submarines. |  |
The symposium will cover the following topics: Powering: nuclear power, air independent propulsion (AIP), hotel & combat system energy requirements, fuel processing, hull resistance, advanced propulsors. - Design & Construction: new designs and concepts, manning requirements, weight reduction, ease of construction, advanced materials, more efficient structural configurations.
- Manoeuvring & Control: high and low speed manoeuvring and control.
- Combat Systems: command, control, communication, computer and IT (C4I) systems, data integration and presentation, non penetrating masts and periscopes; ASW, anti-ship & shore bombardment weapons, weapon stowage and launch systems, minelaying and detection.
- Signature: control, reduction and detection.
- Life Support: atmosphere quality, food, water, accommodation standards.
- Upkeep & Support: equipment re-supply, refit support, maintenance, through life support, access to the submarine, disposal.
- Escape & Rescue: policy, equipments, life support, KURSK lessons.
- Submersibles: ROVs & AUVs in ASW and other roles.
