The Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd., a major shipyard in Shanghai, has just launched a ship with a carrying capacity 22,000 cubic meters of liquefied ethylene gas. The vessel, "Navigator Mars", is the first of the five ships ordered by the Navigator Gas Limited of the United States.
The ship, 170 meters long and 24.2 meters wide, is equipped with four liquid gas containers, which can also carry other types of liquefied gas such as butane. Experts say that ships used to carry liquefied natural gas are built according to higher quality standards than those applied for building ordinary ships because liquefied gas is combustible, explosive and highly corrosive. Jiangnan Shipyard is planning to deliver the other four vessels to the U.S. company within this year.
