New Low Cost Computer Developed

The Advanced Marine Technology, Seattle (USA) based company, is developing a new single board computer. The low power consumption of its Central Processing Unit and companion chips means the computer can be completely enclosed. This makes the computer ideal for marine applications. The computer can be installed in a windows based terminal system to run applications programs showing an engine monitoring system, an electronic chart display, a shipboard management program, a video feed from a surveillance camera, or a satellite communication system.

According to the company’s business development manager, Skip Dassler, “The AMT G101 packs the computing power and capability of a personal computer in a very small package. The entire computer is contained on one printed circuit board that spans a mere 170mm x 102mm x 23mm (6.7 x 4 x 0.9 inches). This is the same size as a floppy disc drive-plus one inch.” This computer delivers 300 MHz processing speed, handles multimedia applications and interfaces to the operator through a familiar mouse and keyboard. The computer can control either CRT displays or Flat Panels in 1024 x 768 resolution. Designed with networking in mind; there is a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet controller installed. The AMT G101 comes ready to accept the customer’s choice of windows or Linux operating systems.

The company expects to release the G101 Single Board Computer in December of 2001.
