New Orders For Hyundai Mipo

      6/20/2000

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, the shipbuilding and repair arm of the Hyundai group, reportedly have registered a dramatic increase in the volume of orders for newbuilding during the first five months. Hyundai Mipo disclosed on June 14 that it expect to record a 192 percent increase in the volume of orders in the first half of the year from the same period a year earlier, partly thanks to 11 new orders worth $370 million from European countries.

Among the orders recently received are four submarine cable layers from a joint venture formed between Alcatel and Louis Dreyfus Armateurs in France, plus seven oil product carriers from Thenamaris in Greece, Gegen in Turkey, and Bottiglieri and Cagnoni in Italy. Although it was established as a ship repair firm in 1975, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard has also been acknowledged as one of the most reliable yards for building specialized vessels such as drilling ships, or cable and pipe laying vessels.
