Designers of membrane tank liquefied natural gas (LNG) ships can now take advantage of a new structural assessment procedure announced by Lloyd's Register (LR). The procedure - an addition to LR's advanced ShipRight package - will help the designer to determine the strength of the hull primary structural members, including the structure supporting the cargo tanks.
The ShipRight notation, SDA, will be assigned when the new procedure, named Structural Design Assessment (SDA) Procedure for Primary Structure of Membrane Tank LNG Ships (Direct Calculations - guidance notes), has been applied.
ShipRight is LR's unique set of comprehensive procedures aimed at improving ship safety by helping to ensure high standards in design, construction and in-service ship care. LR plans to publish further ShipRight SDA procedures, covering the assessment of the primary structure of other ship types, during next year.
