New Subsea Transponder

      7/5/1999

Kongsberg Simrad Ltd developed a new device for maximising the effectiveness of submarine rescue operations. SSE (Submerged Signal Ejector) Transponders were successfully tested during recent exercises off the coast of Southern Norway. The exercise demonstrated how the speed of recovery of the stricken submarine crew could be considerably increased.
SSE Transponder is a refined technology based on transponders that are more commonly used by the offshore industry to track and monitor subsea equipment. It is a simple, yet highly-effective solution for rescuers attempting to locate stricken submarines, that if anechoically clad cannot easily be traced acoustically. Once ejected from the submarine by the SSE, the device remains in close proximity and sends out an acoustic signal that can be picked up by the rescuers.
