EGV "Berlin" is a new supply vessel for the German Navy built by Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft. The mission of the EGV is the immediate support of a NATO maritime task force consisting of frigates and corvettes. The supply performance of the vessel will increase the sea endurance of the task force from 21 days to 45 days.
The vessel will also provide medical service for up to 50 injured persons who can be treated on board in ambulance containers, shelter and operation of up to 2 helicopters and disposal of waste water and garbage of the total task force.
The general concept represents state-of-the-art technology and a high degree of operational reliability due to redundant layout of vital systems. The EGV is designed as a double skin tanker and fulfills the latest requirements regarding oil pollution in case of collision or stranding.

In order to reduce building and operational costs the vessel was designed in accordance with merchant ship standards wherever possible. This results in immense cost savings for the German Navy during the lifetime cycle of the vessel.
