Operational Limits Analysis

SSPA provides customers with theoretical calculations helping to find the optimum speed and heading in rough seas, minimise the risks of cargo and structural damage without causing undue delay and speed reduction.

Operability.jpg (28088 bytes)

Experience of the ship’s seakeeping performance, the wave characteristics in the area and the cargo’s critical stress levels is essential but theoretical calculations may also add important guidance when presented in user-friendly format.

SSPA´s operational curves are calculated for each specific ship in well defined sea conditions and provide useful guidance for the master on the bridge, and they can also be used as a planning tool at the ship operator’s office. The operational curves are presented as a set of polar diagrams allowing for direct comparison of expected ship motions, seakeeping criteria, critical stress levels at different cargo positions and how these factors are related to the speed and heading of the ship. By comparison of relevant limiting response criteria with the calculated ship response figures, presented in the operational curves, the master will get an overview of different operational options and their effect on the ship speed, motions and destination.
