Lloyd's Register flow-chart helps owners to plan ahead accelerated phase-out of single-hull tankers. It is applicable to all owners, operators and charterers of single-hull tankers. Since the IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee has ratified the previous tabled proposals for the accelerated phase-out of single-hull tankers at its 46th meeting in April 2001, Lloyd's Register (LR) has received a number of enquiries from owners and operators requesting clarification of which category their ship falls into.
To help owners, Lloyd's Register has developed a flow chart which owners can use to quickly and easily establish which 'category' a tanker falls into, the phase out date and the requirements of the Condition Assessment Scheme (CAS).
The phase-out of vessels under the amended Regulation 13G are in three categories:
Category 1 - pre-MARPOL tankers will be phased-out between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2007, depending on their date of delivery.
Category 2 - post-MARPOL tankers will be phased-out between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2015, depending on their date of delivery.
Category 3 - small tankers (5,000 - 20,000 dwt for crude oil tankers and 5,000 - 30,000 dwt for products tankers) will be phased-out between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2015, depending on their date of delivery.
