This fourth edition of "Pumps" (edited by K. Myles) contains a wealth of new information to give a wider overview of the types of pumps available and their applications. This book introduces the non-academic to the basic theories of liquid transport. It provides an understanding of pumps and pump performance sufficient to assist the reader in resolving with confidence pumping problems that may be encountered. Whilst providing sufficient theoretical grounding this book is essentially a practical one which concentrates on providing information needed for the day-to-day operation, management and problem solving of pumps and pumping systems.

The book begins with an introduction to the properties of fluids, fluid motion and pump operation. Different types of pumps and liquids to be pumped are covered, together with their installation, operation, testing and maintenance. A large section is devoted to pumping applications, the pump types used and their lubrication. Attention is paid to erosion and corrosion control, and seals, packing motors, drives and control equipment are also covered.
