Quiet Exhaust System for Survey Vessel

Halyard Marine (UK), a company specializing in the design and manufacture of marine engine exhaust silencing solutions, has helped achieve lower noise levels on the Thames with a new exhaust system fitted to a Port of London Authority (PLA) survey vessel Verifier. At its latest refit, Verifier has been fitted with new Caterpillar C32 engines and a specially-designed Halyard exhaust system. This has made a substantial cut in “pass-by” noise and internal reverberation.

Continuous monitoring of the river and estuary is essential to safe navigation. Noise and vibration must be minimised on Verifier to achieve the best results from the vessel’s hydrographic equipment, as well as keeping external noise levels at a minimum. The improved Halyard exhaust system helps to ensure the surveys of the tidal Thames are completed effectively and with a greater degree of comfort for the crew. The company offers complete engine and exhaust silencer systems, including insulation materials. If vibration is adding to the noise and discomfort on board, there are a range of options available to improve habitability, including Halyard’s Aquadrive coupling, which aligns the engine to the drive shaft, and flexible engine mountings, which absorb engine movement and attenuate vibration.
