RORO 2008

Venue: Svenska Mässan in Gothenburg, Sweden

The shipping industry’s only dedicated roll-on/roll-off trade show and conference is the ro-ro industry’s key gathering for ro-ro ship operators, shippers and equipment suppliers.

According to the organisers IIR Exhibitions (a division of Informa UK), RORO 2008 will be a chance for the diverse ro-ro sector to get together at a range of receptions and meetings in and around Gothenburg in May 2008. The social side of the programme will kick off with a reception hosted by the city of Gothenburg at City Hall on 20 May. Companies also holding receptions will include the Port of Gothenburg.

Gothenburg most recently played host to RORO in 2004. Last year the port handled nearly 650,000 ro-ro units and is a key centre for the European ro-ro industry. RORO 2008 event director Richard Gayle says that the three day show and conference comes at a time when the ro-ro industry is experiencing renewed optimism and growth. He notes: “The volume of both freight and passengers moved in the key Baltic, Mediterranean, North Sea and cross Channel sectors continues to rise, and many ship operators have embarked on ambitious fleet renewal programmes. We’re experiencing a real buzz from a wide range of exhibitors looking to showcase their services to this dynamic sector of the shipping industry.”

To date over 50 companies have confirmed their participation with exhibition stands. These include some of the ro-ro sector’s biggest players such as Grimaldi Group, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics and Stena RoRo as well as a host of ports and equipment suppliers.

As in previous years, the exhibition will be accompanied by a conference dedicated to the latest commercial and technical trends in this industry. The overarching theme will be engineering greener logistics. Topics will include capacity constraints, green ship design, an update on the EU's "Motorways of the Seas" project, automotive as well as product shipping and handling, safety and the relationship between ro-ro and lo-lo operations.
