Radar Offers PC Monitor Technology

Furuno USA is the first marine electronics manufacturer to create radar that incorporates industry standard, high quality PC monitor technology in a modular, component-based system. The FR2105BB series of Radars are based on proven conventional Furuno color Radar technology. The new "Black Box" package is a modular design making installation easier than a conventional integral monitor layout.

The ‘BB’ (Black Box) acronym describes the processor unit of the Radar system, which can be placed in a variety of convenient onboard locations. The FR2105BB series allows customizing and selecting the monitor portion of the Radar system according to the specific size limitations and requirements of the vessel. The builder can select virtually any size non-interlaced, multisync (SXGA) PC monitor in a CRT or LCD flat panel configuration. Because the FR2105BB series is modular and consists of only three components: gearbox/transceiver, keyboard and Radar processor unit. Installation and maintenance costs are dramatically lower than those associated with conventional marine radar systems. Its unique design allows technicians to install, service and inspect the equipment without disrupting or disassembling the bridge.
