Remediation of Bilge Oil

SpillRemed (Marine)™, from Sarva Bio Remed (USA), is a product developed on the basis of biodispersion technology. It can be used in bilge tanks to remediate the complex mixture of oil so that the load on oily water separator (OSW) is reduced. SpillRemed by its property disperses the oil so that more dispersed oil is now available for the OSW. In addition, unlike in the case of chemical dispersants, the dispersed oil is simultaneously utilized by the population of oil degrading bacteria.

SpillRemed has been tested for its compatibility with OSWs. Conclusions were reached that it is compatible with their flocculent compound and that it works as well as the tested chemical dispersants. Treatment of oil slop in tankers is one more area of application for this product. The SpillRemed treatment is expected to reduce the cost of transportation of waste oil by ship by treating the oil during their return voyage.

Products developed on the basis of biodispersion technology provide economical solution for smaller fishing boats and yachts that cannot afford costly OWS.
