Separator for Bilge Water with Solids

      1/24/2000

The OMD-8 Oil Content Metering System has been developed by DECKMA HAMBURG GmbH to help the operators of Bilge Water Separators with the handling of oil-free but with solid contaminated water. Especially small solids particles will be detected as Oil by conventional Oil Content Meters and the bilge water can not be discharged to sea.

By use of a novel Light Scattering technique the OMD-8 System is capable to distinguish between solids- and oil-particles.
The modular design of the new OMD-8 makes it easy to install. The sample is continuously taken from the main discharge line of the oily water separator. In the OMD-8 SPU (Sample Processing Unit) all the measurement is done automatically. The sample stream is discharged back to the bilge. The optical measurement data is sent to the OMD-8 DPU (Data Processing Unit) and the oil content is calculated. If the oil content exceeds the IMO requirements, the overboard valve is de-energized and the separator discharge water is directed back to bilge. Both piping and electrical connection are remarkable simple.
