Ship Design & Operation for Env. Sustainability

      1/16/2002

Environmental Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important issue for the maritime industry. The design and operation of environmentally friendly ships is of growing concern to the public as well as international authorities and regulators. Already steps have been taken to reduce the level of pollution caused by ship operation with increased controls on: exhaust emissions, waste disposal, hull coatings and oil pollution. In future improvements in technology and energy conservation in particular have the potential to combine reduced environmental impact with reduced costs. This conference, to be held in London, has been called to assess the work to date on improving the environmental sustainability of ships and to examine what needs to be done now and in the future.
