Ulysses Systems' Task Assistant ship management software has been selected by Upper Lakes Group for its fleet of 22 dry bulk cargo vessels that sail on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway systems. Upper Lakes has already successfully tested the software on one vessel during the winter lay up, and plans to rollout installation for the entire fleet during the remainder of the year. Ulysses' Task Assistant Version 2.0 adds new modules for crewing, planned maintenance and purchasing.
The software details and documents the entire ship management process, step-by-step, task-by-task according to job function. It provides shipboard personnel with a variety of forms and checklists, along with access to online manuals, documents, records or company communications they may need. It guides the user and keeps records of every interaction, including every message and every completed task.
In making the announcement, Upper Lakes' President and CEO Marcel J. Rivard said, "We chose Task Assistant as part of our ongoing commitment to quality performance and operations excellence. It will help us streamline our operations by allowing us to put in place both audit trail and forms management with our fleet. Task Assistant will also provide our crews with critical online access to Upper Lakes' Standard Operations and Health and Safety manuals.” Upper Lakes Group, a private Canadian company headquartered in Toronto, operates a fleet of self-unloading and conventional bulk carriers with a total capacity of approximately 195,000 and 350,000 dead weight tons respectively.
