Ship Production Symposium

      8/2/1999

While U.S shipbuilders have made substantial progress in the 1990's toward commercial competitiveness, they still have a competitive gap to close. At the same time, shipyards are under pressure to build more affordable Navy ships. The purpose of this Symposium is to present and review world-class technologies, strategies and practices that will help large, medium and small American shipyards succeed. The theme of the Symposium and Maritime Exposition is "Strengthening America's Shipyards: Progress, Challenges, Opportunities." The planned technical tracks are based on the National Shipbuilding Research Program's MARITECH/ASE Major Strategic Initiatives: Business Process Technologies, Shipyard Production Process Technologies, Product Design and Material Technologies, Facilities and Tooling, Systems Technologies, and Crosscut Initiatives. The event will take place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, in Arlington, Virginia (Crystal City). The meeting is sponsored by the SNAME Chesapeake Section.
