Shiplift Contracts

      10/4/1999

Syncrolift Inc., a subsidiary of Rolls-Royce plc, announced that it will supply two new Syncrolift(R) shiplift and transfer systems in the Middle East to improve efficiency and profitability in shipyard repair and overhaul activities. The contracts have a combined value of over $7 million.

A 3090-ton-lift-capacity Syncrolift(R) will be added to Abu Dhabi ShipBuilding's (ADSB) facilities in Musaffah, United Arab Emirates, increasing the Newport News Shipbuilding joint venture company's lifting capacity more than six times. Using 12, 325-ton-capacity Syncrolift(R) hoist assemblies and a two-level transfer system, the shiplift will serve five, dry work berths. It will allow ADSB to significantly increase its throughput of shipbuilding and repair work. Both Syncrolifts(R) are expected to begin operations in 2001.
