Shipping & Marine 2008

Venue: NSE Complex, Goregaon, Mumbai, India

As India's global trade is growing continuously, the shipping companies, ship builders, ship repair facilities, ports and infrastructure have to toe the line to meet the future demand. Realising the importance of this sector, the Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways brought out a “National Maritime Development Programme” (NMDP) in March 2006. The programme has identified 276 projects in the ports sector with a cost estimate of Rs. 55, 804 Crores (US $ 12.4 billion) to be implemented by 2011-2012 and 111 projects in shipping sector with a cost estimate of Rs. 44,535 Crores (US $ 9.9 billion) to be implemented by 2024-2025 to meet the projected traffic growth. Major investments are envisaged from the private sector.

The International Conference will address various issues like ship building, Infrastructure, Financing, Public-Private Partnerships, Maritime Training, Maritime Safety in the shipping sector and Growth Drivers for Indian Ports, Private Port Case Studies, Ports-Rail-Road connectivity and security issues. Finally there will be a Panel discussion on “Accelerating Implementation of the National Maritime Development Programme”. The event will thus help implementation of NMDP
